Going here on St. Patrick's Day pretty much made me want to come back never. They were busy. Duh. I expected slow/no service. I expected crowds. Heck, I even expected impossible lines to the bathroom and a bit of rudeness as various employees struggled to keep their sanity. I came in forgiving. And sober. Which might have been my problem. Maybe if I had already been drunk I would have been able to overlook the toilets overflowing with... well... all manner of things one uses a toilet for. Staff couldn't really do much about it I suppose, but they ignored anyone who told them about the issue. And then they must have...run out of something? (Rumors say beer.) Because at 12:30 (about a half hour after I got there) we were all being herded out the door. Not politely herded out the door--shoved out the door by security (this was everyone in the bar, not just us). I was surprised by this and asked what time they closed. "Different times, but for you--now," said the guy as he herded me out of my chair. I raised a calm and ignored protest of, "Um, my sister is in the bathroom--can I wait for her?" "She'll find you later--time to leave," was the response. As he was pushing me away, I realized that in the confusion I had left my sweater on my chair. I asked to go get it (calmly and soberly, but at this point I was branded a troublemaker, apparently?). They didn't let me get my sweater--one of the shovers got it--but in the meantime, another guy started yelling at me to get out in spite me trying to explain the situation and even pointing to his co-worker who was searching for said sweater and returning shortly. Didn't get to finish my one drink of the night. Which was not cheap, as far as regular ol' Jameson and ginger ale goes. Maybe it'd be more fair to return on a non-holiday before writing Eagle Street Grille off, but I didn't consider my experience to be exactly "fair" and it's certainly not worth the trouble of a second chance if there's even a remote possibility that I'd be treated a fraction as badly as my first experience.

Been here a few times now when in town visiting a friend. This is his regular joint and it's a great place to meet up with friends or hang out before/after an event at the Xcel Center across the street. Haven't tried the food yet but the drinks are strong and the service is great. Love the small patio out back.

So my next foodie search is for good Beef Tips. The last time I had them was at Trocaderos, which sadly closed. The Beef Tips here were pretty good, I must say. Inclusion of onion blossoms and peppers really added to the overall flavor. The cut of meat was quality (no fat or grist to be seen!). The staff was friendly and I liked the "old school Saint Paul" feel of the Prohibition era of the names of the items on the menu.

Don't even bother coming here before or after an event at the Xcel... or for that matter if there is an event at the Xcel at all... There are too many people crowding this bar at any given time, and the service is slow and inattentive. The drinks are a little on the spendy side in my opinion when you are talking about the quantity of them... It's just not a fun place to be, it's a place you go because your friends are silly enough to drag you there.

The burger I had was great -- once it arrived about 40 minutes after I ordered it. But I was in quite a large bunch of people called "a couple." I ate all of the burger except for two bites which I gave to my hubby. to try since I still had my fairly decent coleslaw to finish. You know that coleslaw, it's the one with the bug in it. But my Sprite glass was never empty because our waitress kept filling it with water even after we told her it was Sprite. And we got to pay over $13.00 just for my meal alone! I won't be back. Hubby? Who knows but I doubt since I'm his sober driver. Oh, I have been advised by the hubby that the plumbing problem mentioned in previous reviews is still not fixed.

The food here is really good! It has a nice atmosphere and it's right next to the xcel center so if you are headed there this is a great place to stop, grab an appetizer, and a beer and hang out before!

I came in on a Tuesday around 3:15pm, wanting to sit outside. I went inside first and waited for 8 minutes while 3 staff members breezed past me WITHOUT acknowledging me. There were NO other customers, so I'm not sure why there was such a severe lack of customer service. The place was very clean and orderly, but I highly doubt I'll give them a second chance. Shame on you, Eagle Street. Lost yet another downtowner.

Brought my 4 year old daughter to Disney on Ice at the Xcel Energy Center and we arrived early, so we stopped at the Eagle Street Grill for dinner before the show. We sat outselves in a booth and ordered noodles off the kids menu and a burger for me. They cut their own French fries fresh in their kitchen. I love that! Food was good, service was great and the location can't be beat.

Love this place. Yes it's loud and packed on game nights, its a bar. I've always had great service and the food is better than average. The decor is great, it really is an awesome space. Would recommend to anyone....

First of all, the downstairs party room was great. The downstair party room has a bar and toliets separate from the upstairs area. Worth checking into if your interested in a party room. Best Bloody Mary we've had in awhile. Chicken wing apps were wonderful. Only negative was the parking, with less than 20 parking spaces behind the bar, the walk from any near by parking lots is about one to two blocks on a non-event evening. But let face facts, it is downtown St.Paul and next to the Xcel Center.

We had a Living Social coupon for $40 and decided to use it before the Auto Show in downtown Minneapolis. One mistake we did make though was we decided to eat here during the High School State Hockey Tournament at the Xcel Center; which made parking and navigating around St Paul a complete mess. This caused a HUGE crowd at Eagle, which is directly across the street from the X. Additionally, if you want to park in the FREE Eagle private parking lot, you have to pay $20; even if you're only eating at Eagle, you still have to pay (we were told this is normal for event nights). Right when you walk in, the place is pretty divy. You still know it's a bar with all the flat panel TVs on the walls and the decor has a 40's and 50's feel to it. There was no seating on the main floor, so we were seating in the basement (didn't know they had one) in the back corner. We ordered "The Levee" to start with; it's a 3 large meatball dish served with tomato sauce. The meatballs are a little smaller than the size of a tennis ball. They had a nice and deep herb flavor and when mixed with the sauce, it made a great combination. This was the highlight of our dinner... Because there was an event, the Entree section of the menu was NOT AVAILABLE for ordering. This was NOT mentioned to use after we sat down and we only found out about this when we tried to order something from that section of the menu. We were told since the kitchen is so small, they can't handle the entire menu during an event weekend. Back to the drawing board... Instead, we order the "Jesse James" and the "South Robert". The Jesse James is a meatloaf slice wrapped in bacon and paired with slices of toasted white bread (served with lettuce, tomato and mayo). I was completely looking forward to this burger and was completely disappointed. Not sure what happened, but the meatloaf was a little dry and tasteless. I enjoyed the fries more than the burger, but how can you screw up fries?!?!?! The South Robert wasn't any better. On top of being served short of avocados, it wasn't anything to write home about (we ordered this since she can't have gluten; the gluten free options were all in the Entrees section of the menu). The wait staff was slow and the staffer who brought us our food asked two other tables if the food he was carrying belonged to them before it got to us. My guess is they were understaffed and overcrowded due to the high school hockey games. Which means they completed missed the mark on staffing; you'd think they would know to staff MORE people and ensure they know what they're doing. At the end of the day, our waitress was kind and seemed genuinely upset that we were having a terrible experience (parking, no entrees, missing items from dish). I'm sure if we had gone during a non-event night, our experience would have been different. Not sure if the food would've been different though. I gave them 1 star since they consistently deal with event weekends and still can't execute their business. Add more staff to ensure great service, create a system to control the private parking lot so guests can park their for free (don't say FREE on the website then not offer it when a guest arrives and attempt to charge $20) and ensure that your staff know what's available in the kitchen from the menu. The food isn't something I'd go out of my way to eat. If you want a place to hit after a hockey game, then go to this place. For a great burger, I would rather drive another mile down the street to Shamrocks and get a burger there (they also own the Nook).

My wife and I had a Living Social coupon for $40 at Eagle Street Grill, which is right across the street from the Xcel center, where the Minnesota Wild hockey team plays. There was a wrestling tournament happening on this day, so we were expecting a big crowd. But NAY! The place was huge, but had about 30 people in it drinking beer and having some lunch. We chose a booth in the middle area of the establishment. They had a ton of TVs around, so any seat had a viewable area of sports goodness. Our waitress came by and I ordered a Stone Arrogant Bastard, at $6.75 I would never get it normally, but we had $40 to use up. The beer came and it had the awesome nuttiness of the Arrogant Bastard beer, (Great beer) It had a nice brown hue to it and the beer went down well. I ordered the crab based sandwich, which thought would be a crab cake, but it turned out to be a crab salad, and I ordered cottage cheese on the side. Always a plus when you can save some calories. My wife ordered the black bean burger with cottage cheese on the side. She asked "Is it house made?" The waitress responded, "Oh yes" Well it came out and it was clearly a Morning Star Spicy Black bean burger, which is awesome, but after asking if it was house made, it kind of pissed us off because we have these in our freezer at home. Don't get me wrong, I tried a bite, but I have had this black bean burger a thousand times and we really expected more. No house made black bean burger is perfectly cylindrical and neatly pressed. The crab sandwich was pretty good, I was expecting a crab cake though. I ordered it without bacon and it had a nice spiciness to it, not overwhelming, but I could tell the chef kicked it up a notch. The bread was nice and crispy with fresh lettuce and slices of toms. I ordered a froo froo drink to go with it made of vodka and peach schnapps that came it a martini glass, it was pretty good. Not too sweet, but I really couldn't taste the booze, it cold have been from the peachiness though. Overall, we were really disappointed that the black bean burger was a Morning Star spicy black beanburger, but our service was great and we had some great conversation.

Went here for the first time on the Saturday when the Wild played their first game 'back'. We got there early to watch the Gopher game which means we watched the place fill, die down during the Wild game and then come back to life after the Wild game. Our server "Frenchie" was great. Even when the place was getting slammed he was fantastic! We met people there that went to the game and then came back...so he had a lot to keep up with at our table and he did great. The food was ok; what I'd expect. I didn't realize my beer was $6.75 a glass...but that's OK because it was delicious and mixed just right (snake bite)! I would happily go back. If you're not a fan of a packed house, don't go there on an event night. The band was OK. Not quite the fit for the rowdy Wild crowd, in my opinion, but they were still fun. This place had everything. Great crowd seating, intimate seating, dance floor, decent food, great beer selection, a fireplace, great deck, comfy couches, clean bathrooms, happy and personable servers, and just a great overall feel.

Every weekend, my wife and I partake in one of our favorite activities: going out for lunch. On Saturday, or Sunday (or both) we decide that a greasy cheeseburger and a cocktail would be the perfect way to really get the day rolling. 9 times out of 10 we simply walk across the street to Bulldog Lowertown. It's good, convenient and we really like the staff. However, from time to time we decide to try someplace new, and recently we tried The Eagle Street Grille. I have been to the Eagle Street Grille several times for drinks, but neither Sara or I had ever tried the food. We were excited to try a new stop within walking distance of our home, and we were not disappointed. As soon as I walked in, and saw the Bloody Mary Bar, I had a pretty good feeling that I would be back to Eagle Street for lunch. I really enjoy a good Bloody Mary and it's always good when I make it myself. The bar consisted of three different bloody mixes, about a dozen hot sauces, and several spices. Then there were the choices of garnishes: beef sticks, cheddar and pepper jack cheese cubes, pickles and olives. One could make a meal out of a Bloody pretty quickly, and at $4.50 each not go broke doing it. After prepping my Bloody, we started to scan the menu. And I mean scan, because the menu is so vast that it would take an entire period of hockey to read it all. The menu consists of your typical bar food that has been classes up a bit. Apps, burgers, and sandwiches dominate but there are also several salads, soups, and entrees. A little something for everyone. After several minutes of exploration I asked the bartender for a little guidance. He recommended a couple burgers and the Jesse James, which is what I ordered. The Jesse James is a bacon wrapped meatloaf sandwich, on white toast with lettuce, tomato and mayo. It was a BLT with a huge slab of meatloaf in the middle. Really good, and a large portion. I took half of it home with me. Saint Pauley had the Easton burger. It's a combination of chorizo and beef pattied together and served with aged cheddar and garlic mayo. Also very tasty. Both came your choice of chips, fries, coleslaw, or cottage cheese. We both had the hand-cut fries and they were good and salty. Full and happy we waddled home knowing that soon we would return to the Eagle Street Grill. There are a lot of options near the corner of Kellogg and 7th, but I have to say this experience put Eagle Street ahead of the others in my book.

I end up here after work on occasion. I like the beer list here, it isn't the largest around, but it has some good variety and options. I like the food, though I wish like hell I didn't have to say the silly names of their burgers. And to be honest, I'm drinking and usually starved when I am eThey have fired pickles. Win. Its just so damn expensive! And some of the customers, particularly those at the bar, can be sort of dodgy. Though, I am there after 9pm on weeknights, which isn't the classiest time for bar patrons, and they probably think the same of me. They have expanded in recent years, and its a comfortable place to hang. The staff are not the friendliest folks around, especially behind the bar, but the waiters are usually fine. I know I will be back here, and that's cool. Not totally awesome, but cool.

We sat out on the patio - nice view and location, by the xcel center. But, the waitress was slow and inattentive, and couldn't tell us about the beers on tap. My "loaded" grilled cheese had two slices of Kraft cheese, a watery tomato, and one slice of bacon. I have heartburn.

I had always wondered about this 'good looking' place on the corner, by the Excel. Despite some reviews I should have listened to, we went for dinner after a great day at the Science Museum of Minnesota. The restaurant is a very attractive place that preserves the old St. Paul warehouse feel with a modern, rural twist (and many neon lights and TV's to disrupt that, but to be expected located across from a sports/concert venue). With 4 rooms to choose from, it was easy to find a seat! (We, unfortunately for my service background, chose a spot by the open kitchen line.) The beer list will not blow your mind, but has good (local, for the MSP visitors) choices even for the snob like me! The menu is overwhelmingly large. I mean, grab-a-drink-or-two-while-you-read-it large. So, you will not have a problem finding something to satisfy your palate (just choosing what that will be). The food is American+ (American, Italian American, Mexican American, you get the idea). Our service was acceptable, but filled with 30-year-old angst. Our jalapeño cheese curds with chipotle ranch were amazing! My hot Italian sandwich (which I saw sitting on the kitchen line for 10+ minutes) came out cold and soggy along with the walleye sandwich we had at our table. Also, the burger was over-cooked. We received a mediocre apology paired with a comped beer and sandwich. Despite the apology and compensation that satisfied my immediate need, I will probably not be back in the near future. When they reduce their menu and focus on quality instead of quantity I may give it another shot.

The food and service was excellent and had a dog friendly patio so was super stoked, but when I got check they had charged me $7.00 for a side a broccoli. We asked if there was a mistake for this unbelievably over priced vegetable. She said nope that's what it was. I said well the menu said it was $3.95. She said if it did I will gladly fix it. Came back a few minutes later stating the menu said $3.95-6.95. Are you serious? Disceiving! since in your mind you put a value on things based on other things on the menu along with the value of broccoli. I don't return to places that use these type of practices to bump up prices. How long can you stay in business doing this?

OK... Had some issues here: Dust/gunk was falling from the ceiling down onto our drinks and food Water was dripping from celling from above. Food was "meh" at best. But didn't eat a lot after seeing droppings from ceiling. the live music was SO loud you could not scream at the person 1 foot from you and have them hear you. Only reason this place is busy is location to excel and games. They need to CLEAN the venting and ceilings before getting someone sick. Are you a bar/restaurant or concert venue? Live music should not be blowing out your ear drums and making so can't order. Not to mention it wasn't the best to begin with.

Very satisfied. We decided to eat here before attending a Wild game and were super impressed. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was outstanding. Great place to eat at before a game! The only negative was it seemed slightly understaffed, and we weren't offered a refill on our drinks at any point in the meal. No other complaints!!

I met my daughter here yesterday to have some wine and share a couple appetizers. I had read many of the reviews before I went so I must admit I was prepared for some bad service and not great food. First of all when you walk in, the place kind of sprawls over several rooms. I picked a room that had booths and had just sat down when a very friendly waiter came over to take my order. He explained that it was happy hour and wines were half price. I ordered a glass of chardonnay which arrived promplty and was really very good - at $2.75 a bar-gooon. When my daughter arrived our waiter came over and she also decided on the wine. He then explained that appies were half price till 6PM. Seeing it was 5:40 we decided we better get busy and order. We chose three things - the phyllo encrusted brie with apple slices, a shrimp cocktail and the lettuce wraps. The lettuce for the wraps was past its prime - very limp. Our waiter replaced it cheerfully as soon as we pointed it out. All of the appies were OK - not great. The shrimp were a little soggy, the brie wasn't very warm, but, for the price it was all adequate. I would definitely go back for Happy Hour!!

I stopped by here tonight for the first and the last time. The food was good, but extremely overpriced (probably due to location). The main reason I'm giving a one star is because of the server. My friend and I did split tabs. My friend's bill was $19 and when her card was swiped, her phone sent her a message that she was charged $23 (before we even had the chance to give a tip). We asked if gratuity was included in the total and the server said no. So apparently the server decided to take it upon herself to tip herself. So my friend wrote no tip on the restaurant's copy so she wouldn't be charged more. My card didn't appear to be charged more, so I wrote my tip out on my receipt. I just got home and checked my account and the server charged me more than I gave her. So, again, she decided to tip herself. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone being as the server pretty much stole money from us.

The only reason that this is getting two stars over one is my delightful company and the great indoor space this places seems to have! Unfortunately for me and my dining companion, it was a gorgeous night and we wanted to grab dinner on the patio. The place wasn't too busy sans Xcel event, however our service was about as enthusiastic as if there were 50X as many diners. We ordered 2 drinks each, house wine/beer, two entrees and an app, and along with a $25 coupon, the meal still came to $50 (not sure how that happened!) For the food, the lettuce wraps as an app were great! Light, with salsa and guac (and even better dunked in ranch). The boy had the burger and seemed pleased, however the spicy chicken flatbread I was told "rocks", seemed like a store bough digorno crust, hot sauce (no chance it was more than this) diced chicken and sliced mozz. I took half to go, and ended up giving it to the boy to take home since I knew I wouldnt eat it day-old. Super full, yet super unsatisfied, we headed to the Liffey where I enviously eyed their delightful pub fare. Maybe for a miller before a wild game, but nothing more. The patio and the food were sub-par.

Decent for HH. Stopped in recently with some friends for a quick HH. The food specials can't be beat - half price apps before 6, so we were set. Tap beer is also on special, but I really only like domestic light beer so it's no biggie for me. We shared 3 apps - the lettuce wraps, pot stickers and jalapeno cheese curds. The lettuce wraps by far were my favorite - huge leafs of romaine to hold the chicken, peppers and delicious goodness. The cheese curds were good, but I know a place across the river with better jalapeno curds. Potstickers were fine, nothing special. I will say this, I had low expectations, but it was a Tuesday non-event night, so everything was smooth. Service was friendly and quick, parking was free, and the price and location were right. One downside - I don't like how the appetizers are 'named.' I get it, but it was confusing and hard to read. That's just me being picky.

Do not go here for group events. Really, you don't want to. Your kids may not get Christmas presents this year if you have the same experience I did. I'm reading people are having trouble with the service when it's busy. Rest assured, I can tell you the service isn't lacking just on busy nights, Sunday nights at 6pm with an empty restaurant are bad too. Will not go again or ever recommend it despite it's awesome location. I've been trying to work out my problem with the management. However, since they keep saying they'll call but have yet to do so, I'm airing my concerns to the internet at large. I worked with their event coordinator Meg, to set up our event for 20 people. We had drink tickets, pre-ordered some appetizers for the group. Should be pretty simple. Problem is, I got my bill for the group and supposedly there was a "misunderstanding" about me having asked for rail for our drink tickets. We had a $650 bill and no rail drinks. I asked the bartender and she said she misunderstood and hadn't heard that. I said that I had said rail and I apologize for any misunderstanding. An extra couple hundred dollars to the bar bill because she misheard shouldn't be billed to the customer. She talked to her supervisor and I was informed that asking for rail applied to liquor only, did not include beer or wine (read: sorry, we don't want to pay for the seven $20 glasses of wine on your bill). Couple problems with this answer: 1) So, let me get this straight, now she suddenly remembered me asking for rail? 2) Why would I want rail liquor but a free-for-all when it comes to beer or wine? 3) Why was nothing rail on my bill, including liquor? 4) If rail does only apply to liquor at Eagle Street, they should be asking me my thoughts on beer and wine purchases for my event. I feel like I have a pretty strong case here and I was supposed to get a call from the owner Joe but neither of the times I was told he was going to call, has he actually called. I was offered a $50 gift card for my next visit by the event coordinator. Thanks, but no thanks. Will not be going back with my experience and still doesn't address the problem I'm basically subsidizing the hearing problems of their bartender. I don't try to rip off bars and say I want the bar open to everything for my company events and then claim I had stated we wanted rail. I asked for rail, I paid the exorbitant bill despite having stated we wanted rail drinks. And yet, I can't get them to call me back. So, thank you Eagle Street for a very bad experience and creating an angry customer. A simple call back and working with me on the bill would have avoided this. If Eagle Street happens to read this, I know there are misunderstandings in life but to have me foot the whole bill for a blatantly shady "misunderstanding" is ridiculous , especially with how much we spent at your bar.

This was highly disappointing and my experience makes me never want to go back. I sat at the bar with a friend as we watched an away Wild game. For the duration of the 3rd period we witnessed the owner, completely drunk, yelling at his employees. Granted they were in the back corner of the restaurant, we were still sitting 6 feet away from him. The employees handled it well and tried to settle down the scene. It was so uncomfortable to see this happen and I can guarantee you despite being a resident of St. Paul & a wild fan I will not go back to this bar.

Eagle Street Grille is a great place to grab a bite to eat before a concert at the X! Great for happy hours, and accommodating for a large group with NO reservation :) My large group of 15 people walked into the place, looked around, and thought we would have to go down to a McDonald's or something else... but, little did we know, there was a basement to this place!! It also kept with the theme that the main level had- 1920's Speakeasy feel! The basement had its own separate bar (1 of 3) and intimate booths, or large tables that can be pushed together for a great experience for everyone. Staff was very friendly- recommended several things for me because I was totally clueless in what I was hungry for! I ended up getting the "Speakeasy" --Man, did I fit the theme!? and it was delicious!! BBQ chicken sandwich, and perfectly seasoned french fries on the side! I will definitely be back!! Only thing keeping this place from 5 stars, is that it doesn't take reservations on nights that there are concerts going on at the X :(

I've been here a couple times, and have always had a great time! both time I was sitting on the back patio which is dog friendly.. awesome for pet lovers like me. I asked if i could bring my cat because he likes to be on a harness, and the bartender was all about it :) (I didn't bring him btw) The prices were pretty good, and after a couple of vodka shots I was pretty drunk when happy hour was over. will be back this summer!

Great bar!! Garett is an amazing bartender! The servers are great also! Lots of seating, including tables, booths, couches... ect. It's cozy with the fireplaces inside!! The drinks have always been good and stiff! Never have had food here but seems like it could be ok! They have live music on most weekends. They also have a great patio out back! The only bad thing is that it gets SUPER busy before Wild games... and after! It's really crowded and there are alot of people standing around shoulder to shoulder. I highly recommend!!!

A great patio experience prompts this update. Since I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, I had almost forgotten how nice it is to sit on the back deck and watch the world go by. Bonus: the back deck is "dog friendly," so Fido or Fifi won't feel left out. As always, super friendly servers make the experience extra pleasant. The crack Eagle Street staff and the overall good vibe causes me to up the rating to 5 stars.

Poor service and potential theft (READ ON): The only reason I'm giving this one star is because of Eagle Street's longevity and the fact that it has one of the best patios in downtown St. Paul. Everything else including service and prices--highlighted by my last visit--warrants a zero rating. Our surly late-30s waitress seemed less than enthusiastic to serve us our first round of the night, and by "less than enthusiastic" I mean borderline boorish and abrasive. But whatever, no big deal, I don't tend to care about that sort of thing so long as things move relatively quickly. Oh wait, it took forever and the drinks were way overpriced. Over 5$ for a Summit? Come on now, the brewery is right down the street! But all of that being said, whatever. Poor service is anything but uncommon. What really ruined my experience is what happened next; or should I say what I discovered happened several weeks later. When we were winding down on our first round, we decided to move on to Lowertown, so I offered to pick up the tab. When the waitress came back, I gave her my card, but several minutes later she came back to say it had been denied. Oh, I thought, bummer. But whatever. I didn't think I had maxed it out, but I had just gotten back into town from the East Coast the day before, so maybe the automatic security thing kicked in. One of the friends I was with quickly paid in cash, and we paid it no mind. Fast forward two weeks, and I get my credit card bill in the mail. Lo and behold, a charge from the Eagle Street Grille for $36.00! Not saying the waitress kept the cash, but it's possible. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. What really sets me off is the no-response from management when I called the day I discovered it. I've left several messages with the manager on duty, but have yet to hear back from the owner, and have mysteriously never happened to call when he has been there. So Joe the owner, I've tried. I've done my part. Now my gripe is on the Interwebs. Your move. Let's get this resolved. In the meantime, for what it's worth, you won't be seeing me.

Bar food done right. Burgers and straight fries...good salads too.

Great place to grab a quick beer before the Wild game!

First time into the ESG, and maybe the only time. Great location, nice rooms and plenty of TVs for sports. But... even though there was a lot of staff, it was operating like a Keystone Cops adventure. Lots of waitstaff running back and forth, but not really waiting on anyone. Nobody seemed too interested in asking for our order and when they did it was as if they were bored. Decided on a couple of menu items that, when they arrived, were underwhelming. Blah burger and cold fries weren't worth $11. The other sandwich, while large, was pretty meh. The staff was nice but poorly trained and the kitchen definitely is in need of an expediter. Pretty much mass confusion by the waitstaff once the orders are put up. Who knows, maybe one more try when we're downtown, but there are other options.

Pluses are that this is a great reclaimed space (they've taken over a few storefronts and done a nice job tying them together) with exposed brick, good TVs, fireplace, friendly wait staff. The food left a little to be desired; I didn't care so much for the bread they use (long hoagie type buns) or their fries (they are the brown small fries vs the golden crispy shoestrings found at other bars). Next time I'll try the wings, I heard that they are good. Convenient to the X, but don't count on getting a table if you show up at 6PM for a 7PM concernt.

I came here with a large group, which the eagle street was able to accommodate on short notice. However, though we gave them our order well beforehand, they got the most popular item on our limited menu wrong-we asked for the pulled pork and had the pulled pork highlighted on our menu, and almost half our group got pulled turkey. The waitstaff, though helpful while we were reserving the space, we're not friendly and were unapologetic after they got half of our orders wrong. The food was mediocre. There are far better places to eat in st Paul.

Only been here twice so far, however both times it was not busy and we sat on the back patio (which you can bring your dog on!). The menu is huge so it makes it hard to decide what to order. Everyone we were with both times thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I had a tilapia sandwich once, and a spinach and cheese chicken sandwich the second time. Both meals were PLENTY of food and very tasty. The staff were friendly, but not overly so, which is fine. Nothing here is totally gourmet but it has a great selection and can probably satisfy anyone in your group. I would definitely recommend to any low-key diner.

I was there Sunday & had the "In & Out Robbery Burger". It's the perfect name for that burger. It had the smallest amount of cheese I've ever tasted. I was "Robbed" of a good burger. I don't plan to get this burger again. Also the server never brought us our bill. We had to go to the bartender to get the bill. Plus the Nachos, Lose the seasoned sour cream. It doesn't taste good on top of the Nachos.

Will never go back. Ordered Tenderloin tips that were anything but tender. Had to chew them for at least a minute to avoid choking on them. Fries were undercooked. To top it off, poor service. Nevermind that it was before a Wild game, put some extra staff on to ensure proper service.

Just ok. Service was iffy and we waited FOREVER to get our food even though they weren't busy. The place just felt very much like a stinky bar that happened to sell burgers.

Ahhh, Eagle Street. How I remember the days of you only being a one room sardine box. My my how you've grown. This place is the ideal bar. Great atmosphere, location, parking in the back, excellent service, space to roam about, and really good bar food. An exercise in manifest destiny, they keep taking over other neighboring businessess and expanding their awesomeness. The addition of a spacious outdoor deck (with full bar), a basement speakeasy (full bar), last spring they annexed a parking lot in the back, and last summer they completed another room inside--adding a sweet, comfortable full bar and additional seating. Beer on tap selection is plentiful, always cold, and fresh. Great salads, burgers, and wings. The "Cretin Durham" spicy chicken wrap is excellent. Truly something for everybody, and the kitchen stays open pretty late.

I've driven and/or walked by this place more times than I could count! Duh!!! I agree with the previous reviewer...my new "go to" in the neighborhood. First, I love the decor of this place. Exposed brick walls, old wood floors, great deck out back to enjoy in the warmer months. I was there for lunch, great salads by the way. Service was friendly. Will be back to enjoy a Newcastle one evening very soon!

Judging by the recent reviews, sounds like this place may be going downhill. I also had a bad experience. It wasn't an event night but there was a convention going on across the street. Still, no real excuse for the bad service. I didn't eat the food so I can't comment on that but the bartender was obviously having a bad night. Pretty rude which is enough to keep me away. There are plenty of nice eating and drinking establishments near-by. Don't take any chances, go elsewhere.

We went on a Saturday night when there wasn't an event at the Xcel Energy Center, and the place was pretty empty. Nice space and pretty good ambience. Our waitress was SUPER fast. Food was good, but nothing memorable. The mafia theme was probably the best part of the meal - from decor to the menu. It was quite entertaining.

I've been to this restaurant many times over the last few years, usually following an event at the Xcel Center. First let me say that the ambiance of this restaurant is fabulous. Very warm and inviting, especially at night with brick walls, a fireplace, couches, booths, and bar tables spread out over three or four separate rooms. I could just sit with a drink and enjoy the architecture. The food, however, is average at best and pretty bad on occasion. Most recently, I ordered the turkey wrap which came as described and had absolutely no flavor...none. There was no dressing in the wrap at all, no salt or pepper and my dining companion ordered the same thing with the same problem. We ordered ranch to add some flavor that should have been a clue there was an issue with the food and maybe an apology or inquiry would have been called for, but it just resulted in us being charged and extra 75 cents for the privilege of adding flavor to food. The next day, back again and I tried a southwest salad (might have been called the south robert). The salad dressing (chipolte ranch) was very good, but it ended there. The description called for avocados and tortilla strips.....I got no tortilla strips and one sliver of avocado. Though I didn't experience the appetizers on these two visits, others on my table did. Be forewarned, the portions are tiny so make sure to order an appetizer for each person if it is all you are eating. With what appears to be the cancellation of the hockey season, I know this restaurant is suffering so perhaps they are cutting back on what they serve. Too bad, its a lovely restaurant/pub in a great location. PS - the menu has way too many food items and the font used on the menu is impossible to read....bring reading glasses.

This is by far my favorite bar downtown St. Paul. In fact, I remember when Joe and Kevin began working on expanding their tiny little place into the incredible bar that it is now. They have a great happy hour and regular priced drinks are reasonable too. The wait staff is friendly and the service is great. They have a good sized menu and the prices are good, especially for their location. Every meal has been quite good. To add a little bit of local history, many of the menu items are named after the people involved in the happenings of the Public Enemy era of the 1930's like the Barker-Karpis Gang.

2 out of the 3 apartments I've had in the twin cities have been within walking distance of Eagle Street and I make a point to take a few jaunts a year. I absolutely love the atmosphere here, high ceilings and fans with hard wood and shadows make it an excellent place to relax and cool down on a hot summer day (note: I avoid the restaurant during hockey season, way too busy for my taste, but during the off season it is a great low key place). I really think they have one of the most underrated decks in MSP, it's a little small, but with a bar out back and unbeatable views it's a very cool spot for a drink. The food menu is extensive but nothing really stands out, (and I did knock it down a star for that), it is your standard pub fare just with local nameology. All in all, a good place to stop if you're in the neighborhood, but probably not worthy of special trip into the city.

We came here before an event at the Xcel and it was decent but unimpressive. The service was slow and intermittent which us somewhat to be expected on days there are events. However, you would think that they are used to the crowds due to their location. I had the Easton burger which was a mix of chorizo and hamburger topped with cheese. It was good and i would eat it again, but its not something i would crave.

Eagle Street is my FAVORITE spot for grabbing something to eat before a Wild game or meeting for drinks afterward. Their new expansion is gorgeous, the bartenders/servers/staff are super nice and they have great nachos - my personal benchmark for a great bar. Plus, people watching post-game is fab.

Not from the twin cities and was in town for the NHL draft. Over those 2 days it seemed like me and my friend wound up at this bar 4-5 times just because of the proximity to the arena. I have a feeling the service here really varies.. Our first visit we sat on the patio and got zero service. Had to go to the bar to order and even that took far too long. On all subsequent visits we sat at the bar. This service was mostly good if the tall bartender with the bandana was working at the time. Friendly, quick, and chatty. Got a black n bleu burger that I did not care much for. Bleu cheese does not need to be delled out in this proportion. On another visit we got deep-fried ravioli (a St. Louis dish out side of the Lou- I had to try). It was okay, nothing special. A great pre and post game bar if only for the proximity, but not sure about the food, and the service is spotty depending on who is working. A lot of the patrons were very friendly and laid back, so that helped the atmosphere of the place.

Usually when I am in downtown St. Paul it's for an event at the X and Eagle Street is packed. Its right across the street from the arena so it makes for a good spot to wet your whistle before entering the arena. The food was good and they have a huge menu. I had the shrimp po'boy with fries. It was good and I would recommend it if you are a fan of spicy food. It was a non-event night and the service was great, we even had two different people checking in on our table to make sure we were ok. I would say if you want to sit and really enjoy this place come when there isn't an event going on at the X.

I've been here multiple times and am just now writing a review. The location and atmosphere is top-notch. The patio is always lovely in the warmer seasons and this is the place to go before any Wild games or concerts at the Excel Energy Center. Now, onto the food; mediocre if best. It is your typical bar food which seems to me to be overpriced. It is a hit or miss with servers. I've had a really great server, a grumpy server, and a server who had no idea what they were doing. I usually come to Eagle Street just for a cold beer before an event, I'll eat at home.

This place is pretty awesome. Went on a game day (Wild and Vikings) with a friend. It was super quiet for the first two hours then got insanely busy, but the service stayed consistently great. Our server was prompt, friendly and engaging. The food: tasty. Their French fries were some of the best I've ever had. The chicken sandwich I had was delicious. But the chocolate cake was AMAZING. A slice is the size of a dinner plate. It was moist, chocolatey, but not over-the-top rich.

Terrible service. Heard staff complain about hockey lockout. Our food was just OK. Considering they don't seem to have much business they should practice customer service. Sorry we put you out by nagging you for drinks. Snippy waitress.

Popping in to this themed sports bar I had just beat the rush by about ten minutes. The wait staff was standing around waiting for the rush so i was attended to immediately and ordered from the large selection of tap beers, many of which are local which impressed me. The spicy grilled chicken sandwich known as Black Mail in keeping with the days of St.Paul's mob scene was very spicy so I had to have another craft beer to wash it down and ease the spice, a good excuse if you have someone counting your brews for you which I did not. The service was always prompt and when the rush started servers were flying in every direction, evidently the management must be aware of Yelp reviews complaining about service as my server apologized twice even though I didn't see a need to. This looks to be fun lively spot with a sports event or not even though it's a tad expensive but still more of a bargain than similar places in Chicago or Seattle.

Disappointing. The salad was bland but the Walleye sandwich was good. The service was very slow and it didn't appear busy. The menu is very difficult to order from as practically everything has a title unrelated to the item. This means you're reading 80 descriptions just to find what you want. Clever but frustrating in practice.

Visited this restaurant before a concert. My friends and I had sat down and literally 5 seconds later, the waitress came over to take our drink order. That's fantastic except for my ass had barely hit the booth and she was impatiently tapping her foot waiting for drink orders. Their flip flop moscato is good if you like sweet wine. Potstickers for apps were fantastic! We had burgers and I can't say they were anything special. The Lamb burger, the burger with the egg, and the burger with pepper jack cheese. They weren't worth me remembering the names but I believe there was a Lincoln. Hit the spot if it's the closest thing near you.

Came here for a late lunch after attending The 38th Annual Saintly City Cat Club Championship Cat Show. I wasn't starving so I ordered an appetizer and a root beer. After trying to look over their very busy, hard to read menu with too many choices- I settled on jerk flavored chicken bone-in wings. Damn! Those were some awesome wings! Very flavorful. Smoky tasting. Just plain delicious. The wings were meaty too. It came with your choice of bleu cheese or ranch dressing. I always opt for bleu cheese. Also, on the plate was a nice amount of celery PLUS carrots! I ate all eight wings. I probably could have eaten more. My hands were a mess. I asked the nice waitress for a couple wetnaps. She said sure she would bring me one. Did she hear me? I politely asked for two. She ended up bringing me just one wetnap. I asked for another one even though I didn't want to. My hands were a mess and I didn't feel like walking to the restroom to wash them. I like Eagle Street. I don't get out to St. Paul very often. I'm a Minneapolis kinda girl. But you can bet after The 39th Annual Saintly City Cat Club Championship Cat Show, I will be back at Eagle Street enjoying another late lunch.

Living within walking distance and wanting to support local business,I can not recommend this on any day. With the perfect location for events one would think that service during events such Hockey games would be a priority? or is it assumed that they can't possibly p*ss off that many people at one time? After several attempts of watching poor service and food that it is blah at best, there are many other great locations downtown that I would rather support.
